The Access to Apprenticeship (Pharmacy) is for anyone interested in working in a pharmacy as a technician or assistant. Pharmacy technicians and assistants prepare, supply and dispense medicines and products prescribed for patients under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. While most of them work in community pharmacies, some work in the hospital pharmacy service.
As an pre-apprentice, youíll be experience working as a dispensing and pharmacy assistant and undertaking a variety of supervised tasks within the pharmacy. Depending on the setting, you will observe selling over-the-counter medicines, collection of prescriptions, generation of labels, ordering and storing pharmaceutical stock, and providing information on symptoms and products to customers.
Communication skills are essential, as pharmacy technicians have a lot of contact with the public and often provide advice and information on medicines.
