Employability Skills

What is this course about?

This course is for adults with learning difficulties and/or disabilities who wish to develop work skills and progress into either paid or voluntary work. To gain the complete qualification you will need to achieve a range of different units. These include personal and social development, enterprise skills, a range of IT skills, career planning, cv writing and interview techniques. You will also develop your English skills as part of the course and take functional skills English qualification. As part of the course you will be required to travel in the local community and will therefore need a bus pass. You will also need to have a work placement as the course content will be related to this. Assistance in finding a placement can be offered.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to attend an interview and do an informal assessment to make sure this is the right course for you. You must be working between Entry 2 and Level 1 and show a commitment to learning and developing your work skills.

How is it taught?

Learning takes place in the classroom but will also include travel within the local community for trips and visits which will enhance the learning experience and support you in achieving the qualification. The class is taught by a qualified and experienced tutor and you will also be supported in class by a learning support assistant who can provide more 1-2-1 support if needed.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit has an assessment which needs to be completed and these assessments will take place throughout the duration of the course. All units need to be completed in order to pass the qualification. Portfolio building of evidence that shows achievement of the course is also required.

What else do I need to know?

This course is designed specifically for adults with learning difficulites and disabilities. Each learner has their own individual learning and support plan to ensure that progress is made and the qualification is achieved. The main goal is to help learners find paid or voluntary employment or it can be used to support further progression onto another higher level course.
