Young Parents

What is this course about?

This course is aimed at young people expecting a baby or who have just become parents. It will be cover a range of units that will give you the skills and knowledge to help you in parenting and in developing your own personal and social skills. Functional skills is part of the course and you will be helped to improve your english which will help you in being able to progress onto other courses in college.

Entry Requirements

This is course is aimed at expecting or young parents. No formal qualifications are required although a willingness to learn and a commitment to the course is a must. All learners needs will be taken into consideration through an informal interview and skills review with one of the course tutors.

How is it taught?

The course is taught over 2 full days in college by experienced tutors who will be able to guide you through the course and support you in achieving the qualifications. The course will be a mixture of theory and practical sessions with some work experience, visits and trips as well to make the learning experience as interesting and valuable as possible.

How will I be assessed?

To achieve the qualification you have to complete an assessment booklet for each unit and these will be done as part of the course in class time - your tutor will let you know when this will happen. The booklets are marked by one of the tutors then checked before being externally verified.

What could I do next?

This course is designed to enable you to progress onto other full time level 1 qualifications within college. It will give you the skills and knowledge you will need to be able to make an informed choice about your chosen career path and will have access to all other areas within college to help you to make your choice.
