What is this course about?

This course is an introduction to the field of interpreting. It is designed for those interested in working as an interpreter and also experienced interpreters with no formal training

Entry Requirements

You will need to complete a Pre Course Task and attend an interview. Your English needs to be at Level 1 or above. You will also need to be IT literate as you are required to word process your assignments and use the internet.

How is it taught?

The course is classroom based, with access to the appropriate technology. You can access additional resources on the ESOL Moodle learning site. Visits to local court rooms where you will observe professional interpreters are organised by your tutors.Potential employers are invited to speak to participants.

How will I be assessed?

All assignments are initially marked by your course tutor and have to be handed in at the end of the course in a file called portfolio which is then externally assessed.

What else do I need to know?

You will need to have good oral (speaking) and written skills in your own language as well as in English. This course will primarily teach you interpreting skills but will also improve your English skills to some extent. However, if you feel that you need to improve your English further, it is recommended that you take an advanced ESOL course.
