Learning for Living and Work

What is this course about?

The course includes a range of different units that need to be completed in order to gain a qualification. There are a wide range of units available to choose from including health and safety, preparing a simple meal, following instructions, rights and responsibilities and knowing your community. You will be able to access the facilities within the independent living area, incuding the kitchen and laundry, as well as a computer suite and arts and crafts.

Entry Requirements

You must be working between Entry 1 and Entry 3 and be committed to developing your skills. You will work as part of a group and will be required to travel in the local community. All learners need to do have an interivew and informal assessment to ensure this is the right course for them.

How is it taught?

The course is taught in college with a qualified tutor and a learning support assistant, who can provide more 1-2-1 support if necessary. All classes take place at the Cauldon campus in the classrooms, independent living area, in other parts of the college or out in the community, depending the unit being studied. All learners have an individual learning plan and progress file which tracks progress and supports learning.

How will I be assessed?

All units are assessed through a range of methods including photographic evidence, witness statements, practical and written tasks. All of the evidence is gathered for a portfolio throughout the course.
