COURSE LEVEL

Award in Touch Typing (e-type)

What is this course about?

In recent years the skill of accurate keyboarding has been all but lost due to the powerful editing facilities of word processors. This course is intended not only to revive and develop candidatesí touch typing skills, but also to formally recognise the achievement by offering certification from a leading Awarding Body, The British Computer Society.

Start : 13/09/2012Time:
Thu15:00:00-17:00:00

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. The course is equally suitable for beginners or the more experienced, but two fingered, typists.

How is it taught?

Learners will use an interactive training solution provided by the Awarding Body. This is made available both in the classroom and at home. ìStudy weeksî are included in the term to allow for practice at home, where the learner will have the opportunity to develop and build the skill.

How will I be assessed?

There is a short, on-line assessment with instant feedback. The assessment is graded gold, silver or bronze and the pass level determined by the accuracy and speed of performance during the assessment. Silver and gold certificate are designated L2; bronze is level 1. Learners who are able to invest more time practicing at home are often able to gain a higher award. The successful candidate is certificated by The British Computer Society.

What else do I need to know?

There is a need for learners to work at home, so a computer and time to work is essential.

What could I do next?

The course is intended to support learners in using their computers by developing accuracy and speed when entering information from a keyboard. Beginners might like to consider progressing on to a level one course, confident that they are able to type accurately at an enhanced speed, whilst more experienced users may continue on to an appropriate, higher level, course to further develop their knowledge, supported by newly acquired touch typing skills.
