What is this course about?

This is a one year course offered as a second level qualification for mature students entering or already working in the electrical installation or associated industries. This course will provide the basic range of skills for anyone entering the Electrical Installation Industry and working in Domestic, Commercial and Industrial premises.
The course covers the following units:-
Basic installation practice and technology
Working effectively and safely
Practical competences
Principles of Electrotechnology
Application of Health, Safety and Electrical Principles.

Teaching will comprise a variety of classroom and practical based activities

Entry Requirements

A good standard of education and/or relevant experience plus an interview to confirm your commitment. You must be over 21. Also an assessment to establish any support needs and vocational suitability.

How is it taught?

Learning takes place in a friendly and relaxed environment. Your lecturer or the guidance team are there to help you get the most from your course. If you want to study on your own you can use one of the 3 Learning Resources Centres or one of the special study workshops in English, Mathematics, Languages and Information Technology.

This course is designed for people who cannot attend college on a full time or day release basis and who are prepared to commit themselves to working with learning packages and tutor support.

How will I be assessed?

A range of methods, which may include assignments, projects case studies, practical exercises and on-line examinations. N.B. Some daytime attendance will be required for Practical assessments.

What else do I need to know?

City and Guilds is a nationally recognised vocational qualification which provides the background knowledge and skills in a specific work related area.

What could I do next?

Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress to the City and Guilds Electrical Installation 2330 Level 3. An Installation Electrician.
