COURSE LEVEL

Pathways in Painting and Decorating

What is this course about?

Your course will run over one academic year and will give you a basic knowledge of painting and decorating. On successful completion of this course you will achieve a City & Guilds Basic Certificate in Construction Level 1 and this will allow you to progress onto the Small Group CSkills Painting & Decorating Level 1 Diploma where you will gain an industry recognised certificate showing that you are ready to be considered for an apprenticeship in the workplace. Students will also complete Functional Skills as part of this course; this aspect of the qualification may not be directly linked to the trade but will improve their wider education. Also each student will be encouraged to take part in enrichment activities.

Location:
Burslem Campus

Entry Requirements

No formal requirements, but you will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

How is it taught?

Stoke on Trent College has some of the most comprehensive and up to date facilities in the country. Learning takes place in a friendly and relaxed environment and all staff have an excellent knowledge of the industry gained through many years of experience. If you want to study on your own you can use one of the Learning Resources Centres or one of the special study workshops in English, Mathematics and Information Technology. The workshops are large and spacious and are well equipped. It will be necessary for students to undertake some research on an individual basis to help support the learning of the underpinning knowledge aspect of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Students are frequently assessed in both the practical environment and in the classroom. There are a number of units that require completion as well as practical models.

What else do I need to know?

As part of the course the college promotes an open environment which encourages support from parents and guardians. Expert tutors are readily available to answer any questions relating to the course and you are encouraged to speak to them if you have any questions. This course will give you a basic insight into the industry and the opportunity to progress further.

What could I do next?

On successful completion of the Pathway course you could be given the opportunity to progress onto the Level 1 Diploma in Painting & Decorating (Small Group). If you gain employment in the industry you could become an Apprentice, studying for an NVQ in Painting & Decorating. The skills you have gained on the course will benefit you if you choose the Apprenticeship route.
