BTEC EDEXCEL Level 2 First Diploma in Travel and Tourism

What is this course about?

The Level 2 First Diploma in Travel and Tourism equips you with a basic understanding of the skills necessary for this dynamic and expanding industry. Looking at areas such as customer service, UK and European tourist destinations, marketing and business skills, the qualification enables students to develop their knowledge and prepare them for work or further study. In addition, you will study Functional Skills in Maths and English, and there is also a mandatory two week work placement in the industry. Along with presentations by visiting speakers and several UK visits, the course is brought to life through its strong vocational focus.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grade D or above including English. BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification including level 1 functional skills English. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

How is it taught?

Stoke on Trent College has some of the most comprehensive and up-to-date facilities in the country. The Learning Resources Centres are designed to help students by offering information technology facilities, workshops and libraries.

How will I be assessed?

There are various ways in which the course is assessed; including written assignments, group presentations, individual presentations and role plays. There are no final examinations to take on the course and students are able to monitor their progress as they complete each assessment. Obviously, time management and organisation skills are very important as these skills are vital in the industry.

What else do I need to know?

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by employers for the skills it provides in a specific subject area and is accepted by colleges as equivalent to four GCSEs.

What could I do next?

You could progress to any related Level 3 Qualification. The First Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by many employers in the Travel and Tourism industry and is therefore likely to result in enhanced employment prospects.
