Entry Requirements

Although there is no formal pre-requisite to join, the Microsoft Office Specialist courses are professionally recognised, and make appropriate demands on time and effort of learners for a course at this level. Candidates will ideally have completed a qualification at Level 2, or have previous knowledge to this level, in the chosen subject, prior to attending. The courses are not recommended for beginners.

How is it taught?

The modules are taught over a period of ten weeks, six of which are spent in the classroom, four of which are home study. Learners will be provided with course texts and an Internet link to on line training materials which may be accessed inside or outside the classroom. Tutor support is available in class.

How will I be assessed?

Each unit is formally tested by a 50 minute, on-line, Microsoft examination. The examination result is instantly available at the end.

What else do I need to know?

There is a need for learners to work at home, so a computer with appropriate software and a good Internet connection are essential.
For those learners that require more classroom based teaching, the NOCN IT qualifications may be more appropriate.

What could I do next?

Although units are a qualification in their own right, further units may be taken, building up to a Microsoft Office Master certificate which recognises excellence in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook or Access.
OCR Certificate for IT Users ITQ can be achieved by the completion of MOS units.
