What is this course about?

This course will show you how to achieve basic knowledge of how to cover a rich fruit cake with marzipan and sugar paste; to add a simple decorative finish. The course is mainly demonstration by a professional cake expert, and an opportunity to practice some of the techniques to enable you to gain practical experience of rolling out marzipan and sugar paste. This course will give you the essential information and skills you need to make an informed choice about your future progression opportunities. An advanced course is available.

How is it taught?

This class is a combination of demonstration and practical, 3 hours per week over 3 weeks.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment involves the collection of evidence. The evidence will take the form of practical items produced during the course. This is assessed by the tutor and graded; a College certificate will be awarded.

What else do I need to know?

Simple protective clothing is required to comply with food safety regulations. A small cost will be included to pay for any food items and commodities used on this course.

What could I do next?

Cake decorating classes at beginner and advanced levels are available, including: Sugarcraft, Wired flowers, marzipan figures and Royal Icing.
