Higher Education Unit - CISCO CCNA (Parts 3 and 4)

What is this course about?

An introduction to networking using the Cisco CCNA Networking Academy curriculum. This modules covers parts 3 & 4 of the CCNA curriculum.

Content includes advanced routing using multiple routing protocols, DHCP, Access Control Lists, Virtual LANs, Network Address Translation, WAN based protocols and advanced switching concepts.

The main focus of the module is to cover the advanced network concepts and to be able to configure small networks with appropriate IP addresses, routing protocols, VLANs, ACLs, DHCP pools and NAT.


Entry Requirements

This module (whilst offered separately here) is part of the Foundation degree in Computing and Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Applied IT - and as such is at Level 5 (university undergraduate level). Students will be expected to have good English and Maths. Ideally a student will also have an appropriate certificate at Level 3 (A Level equivalent). Dependent upon your existing ability and qualifications an interview for admission onto this course may be required.

Applicants are required to have completed the CISCO CCNA (Parts 1 and 2) module, or to have completed the Cisco CCNA training parts 1 and 2.

How is it taught?

Each 2 hour lesson consists of a lecture, tutorial and practical. You are encouraged to ask questions and to work in small groups on some of your tutorials as this helps provide a range of learning opportunities. Tutor support is also provided outside of the teaching time via an online learning environment. Youíll also be expected to spend between 3 to 6 hours of your own time completing the coursework each week.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment consists of online multi-choice tests, practical assessments and a case study.

What else do I need to know?

Due to the level of this course all students will need to speak to a member of the HE Computing team before being accepted on to the course.
