Gold award for Stoke on Trent College’s Performing Arts Centre
Stoke on Trent College’s Performing Arts centre has hit the Gold standard.
The college has been awarded the top accolade by the Arts Council following a programme of assessment.
Assessors said that the college’s performing arts team “demonstrated an excellent commitment to providing high quality arts provision that is embedded across your curriculum.”
The inspection team said that the department’s many strengths included:
The Performing Arts Centre at Moorland Road, Burslem, caters for a wide range of creative courses including art and design, media, photography and fashion.
The college invested more than £250,000 into the facility last summer to provide high quality studios and equipments for musicians, dancers, actors, film makers and other creative disciplines.
Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton is a former student and recent successes include first place for make-up artist Layla Thornton in a prestigious competition run by the Royal Opera House.
Stoke on Trent College ios accredited by the major training bodies for the arts in the UK - the British Youth Film Academy, National Skills Academy and Access to Music.
College Principal Sarah Robinson said: “Stoke on Trent College has worked hard in building its arts provision in recent years. We are able to offer an opportunity for school leavers and adults in North Staffiordshire who want to work in the creative arts.
“The Artsmark Gold award is recognition for all the hard work and creative inspiration put in by our talented performing arts team.”
