Amy stars for Stoke on Trent in major hairdressing competition
Hairdressing student Amy Bailey proved to be a cut above the competition in a major hairdressing competition.
The 18-year-old Stoke on Trent College student took second place in her heat of the UK section of the WorldSkills hairdressing competition – winning through against 300 competitors.
Her success was all the more remarkable as it was the first time Amy, of Sneyd Green, had entered any competition.
Her Tutor Danielle Birkin said: “Amy has a real creative flare and I wanted to encourage her so asked if she would enter.
“She worked really hard, staying behind in classes and coming in during half term to practice for the competition.”
Amy took part in WorldSkills heats at St Helens College, Lancashire.
Amy, who first visited Stoke on Trent College’s hairdressing department as a school link pupil is nearing completion of a Level Two City and Guilds hairdressing qualification.
She is now awaiting confirmation that she has won a place in the UK finals which will take place in November.
