Jeremy Cartwright

Jeremy is Chair of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and a member of the Transformation, Finance & Resources Committee and the Governance Committee.

He is currently Chairman, Trustee and Rider of Shropshire, Staffordshire and Cheshire Blood-bikes, as well as an international freelance consultant & interim manager. Prior to this, he was Supply Chain Director and HR Development Director for PZ Cussons PLC and has spent many years leading & developing overseas operations in Asia & Africa.

A consistent theme throughout Jeremy’s career has been a people centred approach to change and a desire to be at the forefront of the change. He has extensive experience in project and change management and enjoys helping others succeed through coaching and mentoring.

Jeremy has an MBA in Business Administration from Leeds Metropolitan University, a BSc (Hons) Biochemistry from Birmingham University and an NVQ in Coaching and Assessing from the Open University.

Stephanie Talbot

Start of Service: 1st October 2018

Stephanie is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and the Transformation, Finance & Resources Committee.

She is currently CEO / Co-Founder of Alice Charity which provides practical and emotional support to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable families in Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme. She drives the growth and impact of this charity utilising skills learned over her finance career.

Stephanie has 16 years’ experience in senior finance roles including roles at Seatriever International, Antler UK Ltd and Payzone UK Ltd.

In September 2018, she will be starting an MBA at Staffordshire University and is currently a member of the Finance & Business Advisory Panel at Staffordshire University. Stephanie has BA Hons in Accounting and Finance and CIMA Professional Studies qualification.

Pritpal Singh Nagi DL

Start of Service: 6 December 2013

Pritpal is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and a member of the Audit Committee.  He is also the link governor for Equality and Diversity and Access.

He has been a self-employed businessman for most of his working life, owning a number of successful businesses and commercial properties in West Midlands.

In 2000, he started Authentic Indian Restaurant (The ELMS ) and first Indian Restaurant to receive the “AA Rosette” in Midlands.

In 2003, Pritpal was founder / Chairman of Minority Business Association in Staffordshire and engaged local businesses in Shelton with Staffordshire University and Stoke on Trent College.

Pritpal holds many positions locally including various associations with Keele University. He is the founder member of College of Fellows at Keele University and was Honorary Council Member of North Staffordshire Chamber of Commerce; Member of a local enterprise and innovation group and is also a Trustee the Ramgharia of Sikh Temple – Stoke on Trent.

In 2007 he started “Sanja”. He is the founder and Chairman of the ‘Sanja’ (raising money for local causes) which has raised nearly £250,000.00 for charities in Staffordshire with his annual Hollywood and Bollywood Ball.

In 2014, Pritpal was appointed Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Of Staffordshire.

In 2017, Pritpal was awarded MBE on Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday Honour list for his services to Business and Charities in Staffordshire.

Julie Obada

Start of Service: 10 February 2017

Julie is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation, as well as the Audit Committee and Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee.

Julie is currently the Strategic Manager – LEP, Education, Employment and Skills at Stoke on Trent City Council. Prior to this, she worked for the Council as the Tourism Manager. Julie has a wealth of experience in providing strategic management to the LEP and has led two Ofsted Inspections within the Employment and Skills team at the City Council, as well as participating in other local authority Ofsted inspections.

Julie is also a school governor on the Sutherland Primary governing body.

Julie holds a BA Joint Hons in French and Spanish from University of Leeds and the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Postgraduate Diploma.

Sue Blake

Start of Service 12th September 2019

Sue is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and a member of the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Committee.

Sue has worked in the education, learning and skills sector for over 30 years. Prior to becoming a freelance consultant and project manager, Sue worked in various senior management roles at local and national level for the former Learning and Skills Council and was also the West Midlands Regional Development Manager working on strategic quality improvement at Learning & Skills Improvement Service.

Sue is a qualified and experienced project manager with substantial experience in quality improvement and partnership working. As a trained coach and mentor Sue has worked with several individuals and organisations going through organisational change and transition.

In 2013, working with the Association of Colleges, Sue established a Quality, Improvement & Innovation network in the West Midlands working with leadership teams, to support quality improvement, sharing of effective practice and facilitate peer-to-peer networking & development.

Sue is currently working on the ETF T Level Professional Development programme, supporting groups of colleges and providers preparing to deliver T Levels through Teacher Regional Improvement Projects.

Sue holds an ILM level 5 Coaching and Mentoring in Management certificate and is a Riding for the Disabled Group Coach/Instructor and volunteer for Wyre Forest Riders in Stourport.


Jason Lancaster

Start of Service: 25 February 2020

Jason is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and a member of the Curriculum, Quality & Standards Committee.

Jason has over twenty years’ experience of working in the Further Education and Skills sector. Jason began his career as a part-time lecturer in Engineering in 1998 at Newcastle under Lyme College and progressed through to full-time teaching, course leadership and then Head of a large Faculty covering a broad range of curriculum areas. Jason also successfully led the introduction of two new areas of provision at the College. He left Newcastle under Lyme College in 2008 to work independently with colleges and private learning providers around the country. He has focused on reviewing provision at both curriculum area and whole provider level; driving improvement in underperforming providers; supporting and mentoring managers and senior leaders; and providing interim management and leadership. Jason is also a current inspector in the sector. More recently, Jason was the Vice Principal at Northampton College.

Jason is a member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology and member of the Society for Education and Training. Jason also has a Master in Electronic Engineering and a PGCE in Further and Higher Education.

David Rogers

Start of Service: 25 February 2020

David is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and Chair of the Audit Committee.

David qualified as a Chartered Accountant with what was then Price Waterhouse, specialising in insolvency and corporate recovery. After 18 years, he operated independently, being appointed non-executive chairman of a range of businesses. More recent assignments were in the rail industry and in offshore windfarm construction. David later became involved in the public sector, helping Stoke and Staffordshire local authorities develop longer term strategic plans and leading on the regeneration of Burslem. About 5 years ago, David joined the Board of Combined Healthcare, the NHS trust which is responsible for mental health services across North Staffordshire. For the last three years he has chaired the trust, during which time its CQC rating has improved from Requires Improvement to Outstanding.

David holds a first-class honours degree in engineering and is an active trustee of Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Denise Brown


Start of Service 17th July 2017

Denise is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and Principal & CEO of the College. She is also a member of the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Committee, Transformation, Finance & Resources Committee and the Governance Committee.

Denise has 30 years’ experience in Further Education management and prior to joining the College has been Principal and CEO at Newham College of Further Education in East London and Vice Principal Curriculum and Quality at South Essex College. Denise is particularly specialised in curriculum management and quality improvement. Denise has seen two colleges through three inspection frameworks never achieving less than ‘Good’ and achieving ‘Outstanding’ in one inspection. Denise is passionate about inclusion and open access to Further Education.

Denise is Vice Chair and trustee of the Further Education Trust for Leadership.

Denise holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from Kingston University, a Masters Social Science – Race and Education from the University of Birmingham and is currently studying for a Doctorate in Education at the University of Birmingham.

Stephen Sawbridge

Steve Sawbridge is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation Board, as well as Chair of the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Committee and a member of the Audit Committee and the Governance Committee.

Steve has a 32 year career in further education and has worked in teaching and management roles in colleges; as a freelance consultant working with colleges on a number of further education improvement initiatives including leadership and governance; and on further education policy and strategy at the former Learning and Skills Council.

From 2007 to 2017, Steve was the West Midlands Regional Director for the Association of Colleges responsible for promoting, representing and supporting the 35 member colleges in the region. As a member AoC’s senior management team, Steve contributed nationally to AoC’s policy work on quality, funding and, more recently, on skills devolution.

From 2013 to 2017, Steve was a board member and trustee at Crescent Purchasing Limited, the principal purchasing organisation for Further Education colleges, and from 2007 to 2011 was a board member at the West Midlands Regional Observatory.  He has also been an elected staff governor at a Further Education college in the West Midlands.

Since retiring from AoC in June 2017 Steve continues to be actively involved in further education providing consultancy services on quality improvement and strategy to colleges and other organisations across the country.

Steve has an MA in Education Management from the University of Wolverhampton and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

David Boughey

Vice Chair

David is Vice Chair of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and Chair of the Transformation, Finance and Resources Committee.

He is currently Managing Director of KMF Precision Engineering and, prior to this, he was Chairman of MGS Precision, which operates across a range of demanding markets including automotive, motorsport, aerospace, nuclear energy, military and industrial power. He was previously Director at Abnormal Load Engineering and Managing Director at Howden Compressors Limited.

David is a very experienced Group Managing Director who has succeeded in a number of senior business role within equipment manufacturing, energy industries and service sectors. In all the businesses David has led, he has established successful, graduate and apprentice schemes.

David is very active within Stoke Rugby Club holding a number of appointments including Mini and Junior Chairman, as well as recently being responsible for Sponsorship and serving on the Finance Committee.

David holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Production Engineering from Leeds Metropolitan University, a Diploma in Management Studies from North Staffordshire University and a Fellowship in Manufacturing Management from Cranfield University.

Sibgha Amin

Independent Governor

Sibgha is an Independent Governor and Student Ambassador at Stoke on Trent College. Sibgha was a student at the College and completed her Health and Social Care course in May; she was Student of the Year 2019, which led onto the role as Student Ambassador. She is looking forward to starting University in 2020 to study Psychology with Counselling, where she will have gained some experience from working with current students, and supporting them emotionally.

She has been involved with the Home Office and attended meetings with members of the community, home office members and members of the government; to discuss problems and solutions related to islamophobia, radicalisation and far right, as there has been an increase within these areas. She has also become a spokesperson for young people on the Stoke-On-Trent City Council Prevent Board, where she shared best practice and influenced future policy to ensure young people’s safety.

As a student, she got involved with fundraising, community cohesion, peer mentoring, student council and taking part and leading enrichment activities. This has helped her realise her potential, and from that she aspires to become a counsellor in the future and be able to open and manage her own counselling firm.

Dave is the support staff Governor for the Stoke on Trent College Corporation.

Dave is Director of Student Services at the College; ensuring that the College offers the highest quality service to its students and fosters a culture of high aspiration which inspires and empowers students to achieve their full potential.
Dave is the named College lead for Careers and Mental Health Lead, and a Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Dave holds a BSc in Computer Studies, Post Graduate Level 5 Diploma in Management and Post Graduate Level 7 Award in Careers Leadership. Dave is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Managers (CMI) and The National Association for Managers of Student Services (NAMSS).

Dave is Deputy County Commissioner for The Scouts in Cheshire and a member of their Board of Trustees. Dave has been a member of Scouting since the age of 6 and an adult volunteer for over 15 years, with extensive International experience across Europe and the Far East.

Rob Fisher

Start of Service: 1 October 2018

Rob is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and Chair of the Governance Committee.

Rob is a fully CIPD qualified Human Resources professional with a first class Business Management degree. He is currently Managing Director at Strategi Solutions Group Ltd and is experienced in a wide range of sectors but with particular experience within the Manufacturing and Transport sectors. Prior to his Director role at Strategi Solutions Group Ltd, Rob was the HR Business Partner at Ornua Nutrition Ingredients and Group HR Manager at Steelite International Plc.

Rob has a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, as well as a BA (Hons) Business Management from Staffordshire University.

Jo Mountney

Start of Service: 1st October 2018

Jo is a member of the Stoke on Trent College Corporation and the Curriculum, Quality and Standards Committee.

Jo is currently HR Director at Alton Towers Resort and is CIPD qualified. She has worked at a senior level within the Merlin Entertainments Group for over 10 years.  Jo is passionate about enabling individuals to fulfil their full potential, and creating an environment which engages people and enables them to flourish.  Jo, and the HR team at the Resort, have partnered with the Prince’s Trust on the “Get into Customer Service” programme for five successful years, helping 80 young people become work ready and gain employment.

Jo has a CIPD Level 7 qualification from Staffordshire University, as well as a HND in Hospitality, Catering and Institutional Management from the University of Wales.

Amanda Anthony (External Co-optee)

Start of Service: 12 May 2017

Amanda is a co-opted member of the Stoke on Trent College Audit Committee.

Amanda is currently a Senior Finance Manager at the Alpha Academies Trust and has worked in the financial sector since 2001. Prior to joining the College Academies Trust in 2014, she had worked in both practise and various industry sectors as a Finance Manager.

Amanda is a Fellow member of the Association of Accounting Technicians, has a DipHe in Leisure Industry Management from Brunel University, a CertHe in Secondary Music Education from the University of Central England, a Diploma in Professional Accountancy from Thames Valley University and is currently in the final stage of studying for a ACCA qualification.

Jason Carrigan

Jason is a member co-opted member of the Stoke on Trent College Transformation, Finance & Resources Committee.

Jason is currently Primary Care Project Manager at the Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit where he takes operational responsibility for the delivery of complex primary care solutions – acting as a prime point of contact for clients and the CSU. He has 26 years’ experience in public sector accounting in the NHS and has worked in various sectors of the NHS including acute, commissioning and now the Commissioning Support Unit.

Jason is a Chartered Accountant (CIMA) and has BA (Hons) in Business Studies.

Maxine Bagshaw

(Clerk to the Corporation)

Start of Service 1 January 2011.

Maxine is the Clerk to the Corporation at Stoke on Trent College. She has worked in the FE sector for 14 years now and prior to that was a solicitor in private practice. Her role is to support the board and provide independent advice and guidance.

She is also the Clerk and Company Secretary to Alpha Academies Trust, which includes the Studio Colleges, Maple Court, the Discovery Academy, Excel Academy, Birches Head and Sneyd Green schools.

Maxine is also the Clerk at West Nottinghamshire College and Interim Clerk at Stratford upon Avon College.
