The care sector – both childcare and health and social care – is one of the largest in the region, with massive employers such as the University Hospitals of North Midlands employing thousands of staff, in addition to hundreds of care homes, childcare facilities and early years settings. As birth rates increase and more people live to old age, this sector is only set to grow in the coming years.

 

The Careers

A job in this sector offers you the chance to make a real difference, be it ensuring that children get the best start in life or that proper medical care is provided to people of all ages. Career pathways are diverse, including those of midwife, nurse, carer, nursery nurse early years practitioner and playworker as well as lots of associated healthcare professions.


Apprenticeship Cleaning & Environmental Support

This work based Apprenticeship is ideal if you are working in, or want to work in the cleaning & environmental sector. You will gain technical knowledge and real practical experience to start your career. You will learn in the workplace, away from the workstation and you will have the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context. You will take a Certificate in Cleaning and Support Service Skills and a Certificate in Cleaning Principles both at L2. If you do not have maths and English qualifications at the necessary level, then you will need to achieve these at Level 1 to be successful in your Apprenticeship. Apprentices will develop skills & understanding of their job role & the impact it has on the business, by gaining expert knowledge of the cleaning industry & its requirements. Improving efficiency & effectiveness of working practices by using up to date methods & specialist techniques. You will learn to use many types of cleaning machinery.
