It’s a broad sector with jobs ranging from the culture and entertainment industry to the world of advertising and design. This sector also includes industries that make heavy use of IT, such as games design, digital imaging graphics and website design.

Broadcast Media (TV/Film and Radio) Level 3 UAL Extended Diploma

Subjects include Film / Radio Documentary Production, Scriptwriting, News Production, Media Industry Studies, Presentation and Production Techniques. This course aims to equip students with a range of high level skills in all aspects of media and production. You are given the opportunity to write, plan and produce a variety of media products including short productions, documentaries, music videos and professional broadcast projects. This course has a tradition of creating professional quality productions including winning the Royal Television Awards for best student film on two occasions and running their own dedicated radio station (Heatwave Radio). You will have the opportunity to specialise in a subject area of your choosing for a final major project. The Media and Performing Arts department is equipped with a variety of specialist facilities and equipment including a TV, Radio & Photography studios, as well as Apple Mac Graphics and Multimedia workshops. You will also have the opportunity to participate in specific experience of work at companies such as Signal Radio.

Prep 4 Vocation – Creative Arts

These courses are for young people who: ? Are leaving school with little or no GCSE qualifications ? Are not certain of what vocational area to move into ? Need a bit more support with English and Maths ? Need to develop their confidence and other social skills ? Need more 1-2-1 support and steadier progression These courses are called Preparation for Vocation (Prep 4) and we offer a range of year-long Prep 4 courses that prepare you for progressing onto a vocational programme. You can choose from a range of vocational areas including catering, health and social care, ICT, motor vehicle, construction, hair and beauty and creative arts. As part of the course you will also work on employability skills, English, Maths and ICT. Courses are available at a range of levels from Entry 2 to Level 2 and once you have been for an informal interview and assessment, we will make sure that you are put on the right course for you. Producing shows for the College’s Heatwave Radio station are amongst my highlights doing this course and are invaluable to improving as a presenter.  If you’re willing to put in the work and you have an interest in broadcast media then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t take this course.  I’ve found it’s introduced me to career paths I never thought were there.
