The Sector

This sector incorporates all of the uniformed and non-uniformed public services such as the police, fire and rescue, the armed forces, the army or the RAF. With the government spending nearly £29 billion per year on police service and over £33 billion on military defence, there are many career pathways to consider in this dynamic and vitally important sector.

 

The Careers

A career in the public services sector is more than just an office job. There are many active, hands-on roles within the public services that will involve you working within the community, often in the heart of the action and taking on responsibility for the safety and well-being of other people. You will need to love a challenge and be a determined, disciplined and resilient individual.


Army Preparation Course Level 1

Public Services & Army Preparation

This is a unique course designed to give learners an insight into entry to the uniformed services. The course will thoroughly prepare you for basic training through a wide range of activities. The course involves a mixture of physical fitness, practical skill development and classroom based sessions. Units such as map reading and navigation, discipline, leadership and teamwork, fitness training and adventurous activities will be covered. Strong links with the Army ensures you will be well supported and prepared for entry into your chosen career.

Public Services BTEC Level 2

Public Services & Army Preparation

A demanding Level 2 course designed for students interested in applying to join any uniformed service. As with the Level 1 course, subjects are designed to provide and develop essential skills, fitness levels and knowledge for public service employment. Visits, outdoor pursuits and attending events are compulsory parts of the course for which you will have to make a financial contribution.

An advanced programme for students wanting a career in any uniformed service. Subjects are designed to provide and develop essential skills and knowledge for public service employment; they include units with a psychological, legal and fitness background as well as citizenship, teamwork and leadership. Visits, residentials, outdoor pursuits and external speakers are compulsory parts of the course.

Sport and Public Services BTEC Level 1

Public Services & Army Preparation

This course is an introduction to the knowledge required to work in the sport and recreation industry or public services. It gives you the chance to develop a broad understanding of the industries and of the avenues available to you for work or entering further study. The development of good health, fitness and coaching is investigated giving you a firm basis for progression onto the First Diploma in Sport. The public services aspect of the course is designed for students interested in applying to join any uniformed service, such as the Police or Fire Service.
