Course Summary

Property maintenance is a profession within its own right, this is the course if you want to be introduced to a range of trades or for those wishing to work in construction but are undecided about the trade that you wish to go into- all course sections are mandatory to complete the course. As part of this programme you will complete practical tasks as you move through the different trade areas. You will cover basic skills within:
Bricklaying, Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Joinery. You will also be able to gain an understanding of Wall and Floor tiling techniques including Surface preparation. The majority of the course is practical based. You will be able to apply these in practical situations as the college supports a range of projects within the community and during work experience. Progression from this course is to level 2 Property Maintenance or a level 1 full trade route.

How Is It Assessed

Practical assessments take place throughout the course with some theory testing also completed

How Is It Taught

The course is mainly practical- workshop based with some theory to prepare you for work in the construction industry. Classroom sessions are supported online through the college VLE portal, Canvas.

What Could I do Next

Progression to a full trade route at level 1, the level 2 Property Maintenance course or on to an apprenticeship in a relevant trade or the Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship.
