Course Summary

This course provides you with high quality, industry recognised qualifications that help you to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to work as a professional in the IT sector. The programme begins with an introduction to using IT tools to communicate and exchange information safely, securely and effectively and looking at the available professional IT job roles. You will then have the opportunity to develop specialist understanding and skills in installing and maintaining computer systems or software development and automated computer systems, depending on which strand you choose.

4 GCSEs grade D or above. BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

How Is It Assessed

Most of the units are assignment based and you can work towards a Pass, Merit or Distinction. There are 2 examined units by external examination.

Stoke on Trent College has some of the most comprehensive and up to date facilities in the country. The Learning Resources Centres are designed to help students by offering information technology facilities, workshops and libraries.

What Could I do Next

If you achieve a merit or above you will be able to progress to the BTEC Extended Diploma in IT or Advanced Diploma in IT.

What Else Do I Need To Know

This programme prepares you for entry into employment as a technician. Our level 1 and level 2 IT course aim to provide a range of skill sets for our learners. We offer Web development, programming, hardware and software, and networking units. In addition to this, at level 2 we offer modules such as automated computer systems, and mobile apps development.
