Course Summary
This course provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in construction and the built environment and reflects the managerial nature of the professional careers within the sector and combines academic learning with hands on experience of construction and the built environment. You will use design software to complete building structures, looking at materials used in construction from below ground to final stages of projects. You will use a variety of equipment from 3d laser scanning to ground radar along with how drones are improving the accuracy of planning and progress. You will study the importance of sustainability within the construction industry. You will complete site visits in a range of setting from material manufacturers to construction site visits and meet a range of construction professionals. There will also be the chance to complete work experience as part of the programme.The Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-Levels and allows progression to higher education or employment.Course Requirements

Four GCSEs at grades A* to C (9 to 4) including English and Maths. You should have at least a grade B (6) in Maths GCSE due to the advanced Maths element of the course.How Is It Assessed

The course is assessed through a varied range of assessment methods. These will include; written assignments, group and individual presentations, role play, practical observation, report writing, poster presentations and oral questioning. From the Level 3 BTEC you could progress to university to study for a degree in an Construction and Built Environment-related subject such as construction site management, surveying, project management, or architecture. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is a technical and professional qualification which is recognised by employers for the skill it provides in a specific subject area and is accepted by colleges and universities as equivalent to three A-Levels. Please note: It takes 2 years to complete this full Level 3 qualification.
