Course Summary

This course provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in the design, development and manufacture and maintenance of engineering products and systems. Learning is achieved through the completion of projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. The level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A-Levels and allows progression to higher education, higher apprenticeships or employment.

Course Requirements

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grades A* to C (9 to 4) including English and Maths. You should have at least a grade B (6) in Maths GCSE.

How Is It Taught

The course is assessed through a varied range of assessment methods. These will include; written assignments, group and individual presentations, role play, practical observation, report writing, poster presentations and oral questioning. The assessments take place throughout the course although there are also some final exams at the end to pass the course. You will be able to monitor your assessments and progress at any stage.

What Could I do Next

From the Level 3 BTEC you could progress to university to study for a degree in an Engineering-related subject such as mechanical, electrical or electronic engineering. This could include studying for HNC and HND in Engineering with Stoke on Trent College. Or you could progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering, leading potentially to a Higher Apprenticeship. Both routes will lead to profession roles within the Engineering sector.

What Else Do I Need To Know

The BTEC Level 3 is a technical and professional qualification which is recognised by employers for the skill it provides in a specific subject area and is accepted by colleges and universities as equivalent to three A-Levels. Please note: It takes 2 years to complete this full Level 3 qualification. Progression to the second year of the course is subject to successful achievement of the first year of the course.
