Course Summary

This work based Apprenticeship is ideal if you are working in, or want to work as a Hairdresser or Barber

You will gain technical knowledge and real practical experience to start your career. You will learn in the workplace and have formal training in our state of the art commercial hair salons. You will have the opportunity to practice and embed new skills in a real work context. If you do not have maths or English qualifications at the necessary level, then you will need to achieve these at Level 2 to be successful in your Apprenticeship and complete your End point assessment


Hairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, colour and lighten hair and perm the hair. You must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. You will also need to be able to carry out in depth consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices, and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.

How Is It Assessed

You will be assessed throughout the apprenticeship course as you work to complete the Diploma inside the qualification. The assessments consist of on line multiple choice tests and practical assessments. When you have completed the diploma you will be assessed via the end point assessment which is a practical exam and oral questions assessed by an external assessor from the awarding body

On and off the job training within the workplace, with weekly day release to Stoke on Trent College

What Could I do Next

Main intake is September, with options for mid year starts - January / April subject to numbers
