What is this course about?

The Certificate level 2 in Accounting enables you to learn the specialist knowledge of being an Accountant Technician. If you wish to pursue a career in Accounting and Finance, the course is an ideal stepping stone to be a qualified accountant technician and/or accountant.

Entry Requirements

You must have a good standard of education preferably including Maths and English GCSE at grade C or above with some relevant prior experience of accountancy. You must enjoy working with numbers and have excellent communication skills. An initial assessment and informal interview are required to establish enthusiasm, commitment and interest as well as identifying your suitability for a blended learning approach to your studies.
For learners with limited prior experience, successful completion of the AAT Level 1 Access programme would be required.
All learners will be required to completed an initial assessment in Maths and English and obtain at Least L1 in both. You will also be required to complete a specific accounting exercise.

How is it taught

Our Online and On Campus approach enables students to benefit from both face-to-face teaching at Stoke-on-Trent College and online lessons available on demand. This approach offers a truly flexible study experience. In addition to attending face-to-face classes, students will be expected to undertake between 5 and 6 hours of additional study out of college.

This course is primarily assessed through online AAT examinations.

All examination fees are included in the cost of the course – this applies to 1 exam per unit only and subsequent resits are NOT included in the course cost. All learners will be required to complete an initial assessment in Maths and English and obtain at Least L2 in both. The AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) is a professional body that specialises in Accounting Technician training and development. A student completing this qualification will develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing, as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. Students will learn to use accounting software and to develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, IT skills and understanding of the business environment, all of which are included in the qualification. All of the units within the Foundation Certificate in Accounting qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification. To achieve the qualification and to be awarded a grade, a student must pass all the mandatory assessments and the synoptic assessment. To apply for this course you must complete an application form. You will then be invited to attend the initial assessment and an informal interview.
