BTEC L2 Ext Cert in Sport
What is this course about?
The BTEC Level 2 is a demanding theory based course which includes some practical elements. The course provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to work or study at higher levels in the sports industry, and looks at the aspects of coaching and support required for sports performance. This involves subjects related to nutrition, sports psychology, health and anatomy and physiology. In addition the course investigates aspects of health issues and fitness instruction. This course is ideal for anyone who has a strong interest in sport and wants to develop their understanding about improving fitness and performance. This course can also provide access to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sports and Exercise Science or the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness).
4 GCSEs grade D or above. BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification. You will have a preinduction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.
How is it taught
The course is delivered through a wide range of teaching and learning styles. Students will use the latest IT facilities to investigate aspects of the subject area, promoting research and independent leaning skills, which will be supported and put into use in real life situations both inside and outside of the college environment. An extensive range of employers from the industry area will be involved in the support and delivery of the subject material. Student involvement is encouraged at all times to help your learning and understanding.
How will I be assessed?
The course is assessed through a varied range of assessment methods. These will include; written assignments, group and individual presentations, role play, practical observation, report writing, poster presentations and oral questioning. The majority of assessment takes place through coursework but two units include end of unit exams which you will need to pass to gain the qualification. You will be able to monitor your assessments and your progress to success at any stage in the course.
What else do I need to know?
The BTEC Level 2 is a vocational qualification which is recognised by employers for the skill it provides in a specific subject area.
What could I do next?
You could progress to any related Level 3 qualification. The First Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by many employers in the sports industry and is therefore likely to result in enhanced employment prospects.
