Computing BSc (Hons) Foundation Year – In Partnership with Staffordshire University
What is this course about?
The Foundation Year is designed to prepare you with the knowledge and skills to move onto a three year Computing Honours degree at Staffordshire University. During your time on this course you will study a range of topics including: Computer Hardware, Database Development, Programming, Introductory Maths, Networking, Programming, Study Skills and Web Technologies.
48 UCAS points from a minimum of one A-Level or a BTEC National Award.
Other qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. Candidates are expected to have a good level of English and Maths, be motivated and committed to the course.
An initial assessment for English and Maths may be required.

How is it taught
You will spend 15 hours per week in a taught, classroom environment. Taught sessions are made up of lectures, tutorials and practical activities. You will also be expected to work independently off-campus in your own time on exercises and activities as set by your tutor. The course runs from 1.30pm to 4.30pm on Monday and 9.30am to 4.30pm Tuesday and Wednesday for 28 weeks.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of coursework, in-class tests, practical assessments and examinations. You will be required to complete portfolios of work, presentations and working system implementations.

On successful completion of the Foundation Year you will be able to progress onto the first year of a three-year computing Honours degree at Staffordshire University.
