What is this course about?This course provides an introduction to computer hardware architecture including building, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting as well as introducing network concepts and configuring small networks. Hardware content includes: desktop build and configuration, server administration, virtualisation, imaging, maintenance and troubleshooting. Networking content includes: fundamental networking principles, IP addressing, routing protocols, network device configuration, OSI and TCP/IP layers and cabling, This covers the Cisco CCENT Networking Academy curriculum (CISCO CCNA parts 1 and 2 which following the successful completion of an external exam will award them a CCENT).
How is it taught?Each 3 hour lesson consists of a lecture, tutorial and practical. You are encouraged to ask questions and to work in small groups on some of your tutorials as this helps provide a range of learning opportunities. Tutor support is also provided outside of the teaching time via an online learning environment.
How will I be assessed?Assessment consists of online multi-choice tests, practical assessments and a case study.

Learning takes place in a friendly and relaxed environment and your teaching team are here to help you get the most from your course. If you want to study on your own you can use one of the Learning Resources Centres or one of the special study workshops in English, Mathematics and Information Technology. All our classrooms are large, spacious and well equipped, and our staff have an excellent knowledge of the industry gained through many years of experience.
