ESOL Foundation Learning 16-18 years
This course has expired but has been left here for reference purposes.
What is this course about?
This is a full-time course that Stoke-on-Trent College offers to 16-18 year olds for whom English is not their first language. The programme is designed to give these students the language and study skills necessary to access 6th Form or mainstream FE, and provide them with the essential skills to live and work in the UK. Students attend ESOL classes at Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1 and prepare for the ESOL City and Guilds qualifications. The rest of the programme includes Numeracy, Employability and Enrichment.
There are no formal entry requirements. An interview is required to assess your
English and Numeracy skills, so that you can be placed in classes at the correct level.
How is it taught
You attend ESOL classes with other young students to develop your language skills. Numeracy is also taught in the classes. The tutorial and enrichment programme gives you the opportunity to experience a range of educational settings in and out of the classroom. Most of your teachers are native speakers of English, and the entire programme is delivered and assessed in English.
What else do I need to know?
In order to progress to main stream College courses and Higher Education, your level of English needs to be at least Entry Level 3.
What could I do next?
We will provide you with encouragement and support to progress onto vocational or academic courses.
