What is this course about?

The course is designed to improve your practice and understanding of dance performance in all its various forms. Creative communication is central to the programme, encouraging dancers to develop a range of skills that will enhance their employability in the industry and further their career goals. With the emphasis on performance you will study dance technique (ballet, contemporary, Jazz and urban), movement studies, choreography, dance repertoire and performance. These subjects are explored practically, with underpinning knowledge and research to support and guide the creative process through a range of assignments, project and performances. The Level 4 Dance Performance would appeal to those with a high level of commitment and a professional approach to practical and academic work, and personal development.

How is it taught?

The course is taught through highly practical workshops, rehearsals, seminars, repertoire, performances and self-directed academic study. The units are designed to give a broad range of experiences in which to apply your technical, creative and performance techniques, as well as your academic understanding. Units may include: ? Ballet Technique 1 ? Contemporary Technique 1 ? Choreography ? Preparation for Performance ? Jazz Dance ? Understanding Dance: History & Analysis ? Performance ? Urban Dance ? Professional Studies ? Choreography for Film ? Professional Practice

How will I be assessed?

A range of assessment methods will be used, including presentations, workshops, performances, academic essays and work-based projects. Assessment is on-going and tutor assessed, with formal assessments moderated by the awarding body. There are no exams.

What could I do next?

Successful completion of this course will enable you to: ? Audition for professional training ? Progress into a range of employment opportunities, including self-employed artist, arts administration, community dance, dance in education. ? Progress to higher education to achieve a (BA hons) Degree in Dance.
