FREE Consultancy

Training Needs Analysis

Our service for all businesses typically starts with our FREE Consultancy Service, to find out exactly what your organisation needs in terms of skills and then work out how these can be met. Following this analysis, we will work with you to put together a package of training and development, be it Apprenticeship programmes, professional qualifications, statutory training or short courses to meet specific needs.

Training Services

Our courses and programmes are designed to enable you to choose the method of delivery that most suits your needs – onsite, at one of our training venues or via distance learning. Our learning packages are as flexible as required to help you and your team to get the skills and qualifications needed for the modern workplace. Courses range from professional and university-level qualifications (Foundation degrees, NEBOSH, CMI, ILM) to work-based NVQs, distance learning courses and short one or two day programmes. See our course finder or contact us for details.

FREE Recruitment Services

When it comes to recruiting Apprentices we can help with a comprehensive recruitment service that includes the ability to access work-ready, talented students as they complete their studies with us.  The service can include advertising your vacancy, screening applications and carrying out initial assessments to provide you with a shortlist to carry out final interviews with.

Access to Funding

Stoke on Trent College keeps up to date with and regularly bids for ESF and government funding to support training for local businesses, which means that we are in a position to help you secure funding for your business’s training and development, if funding is available.

Pre-Employment Training

There are a number of ways in which we can help you find the right individual for your business.

Traineeships are designed to prepare young people for life in employment by giving them the skills and experience that employers are looking for. At its core are work preparation training, English and maths and a high quality work experience placement.

Benefits to your business:

  • Trial young talent in your organisation – take first pick of enthusiastic young people who are looking for employment.
  • Shape a Trainee’s experience before potentially taking them on as an Apprentice.
  • Help create a pipeline of experienced young people for your business.
  • Get ahead of the competition by bringing enthusiastic young people with fresh ideas into your business
  • Allow existing staff to develop their skills in mentoring and coaching

Traineeship FAQ’s

What does it cost?

Nothing. Traineeships are FREE to your business.

What do I need to provide?

You will need to be committed to offering a high quality work experience placement that guarantees your Trainee real experience of work. You will also need to provide suitable protective equipment where required.

I've previously offered informal work experience, how is this different?

If you have hosted students on informal work experience you might welcome the additional structure of a Traineeship placement.

My existing Apprentice is due to complete soon. Can I still have a Trainee?

If you’re looking for your next Apprentice but aren’t quite ready to employ them as yet, a Trainee could be the answer. The Apprentice can be involved in mentoring the Trainee and help them to understand the commitment and benefits of an Apprenticeship.

How long is the Traineeship?

Traineeships last anything from six weeks to six months. We will work with you to find the right Traineeship for your business.

Will I have to pay my Trainee?

You do not need to formally pay your Trainee but the Government encourages employers to provide trainees with financial support to meet their travel or meal costs.

Your business may be eligible for a grant of £1,500* if a Trainee progresses onto an Apprenticeship within your organisation.
