Introducing your coach

Hoopskills Basketball Academy will suit you if you want flexibility in the type of course you study – for example you could train in early years, health and social care, sport or art and design. This academy is open to 16-19 year old male and female students. As a member of the Hoopskills Basketball Academy at Stoke on Trent College, you will receive professional coaching by experienced and highly qualified coaches, including Shawn Jamison, ex-harlem globetrotter. You’ll take part in 4 practical coaching sessions a week (10 hours in total) to fit around your timetable, as well as having the chance to play regular competitive fixtures in the Association of Sport (AOC Sport) West Midlands regional leagues and cups.

Sports massage, rehabilitation and strength and conditioning support will also be available to all players.

What makes the Hoopskills programme unique

Case study

Stoke on Trent College student athlete Alex Tew, received a scholarship to attend Weber State University, located in Utah.

Tew attended Stoke on Trent College from 2017-19. He was brought to Stoke by his head coach Shawn Jamison who is a former Harlem Globetrotter and runs his Hoop Skills Basketball Academy in partnership with Stoke on Trent College.

Alex Tew, Student Athlete

Alex is a great kid and this scholarship is well deserved. We wish him the best and I’m sure he will make us proud.

Shawn Jamison, Hoopskills Basketball Academy Director
