Basketball Team win third consecutive West Midlands Tournament

Stoke-on-Trent College Men’s Basketball Team won its third consecutive West Midlands Regional Tournament on Wednesday 10th November.

The tournament took place at Fenton Manor Leisure Centre where the SOTC team didn’t lose a single match from start to finish.

Prior to the first tip-off, it was unexpectedly revealed that leading scorer Shawn Jamison Jr would not be allowed to take part in the tournament due to strict age restrictions. The team showed incredible resilience and were fuelled on by this news to dominate the competition, winning 7 consecutive games in a row.

Beating Birmingham Metropolitan College in the semi-finals and Wolverhampton College in the Finals, the team continue to rule regional basketball.

The Stoke-on-Trent College team is coached by highly regarded Basketball professional and Hoop Skills leader, Shawn Jamison, who played for a number of successful clubs such as the Harlem Globetrotters. Shawn now shares his experience and expertise with the young, next generation of players training here at the College.

This team has been trained to deal with any adversity that comes their way. They showed that they were clearly the best team in the building.

The team have now qualified for the AoC Nationals in Nottingham, where they’ll be competing for their third championship.

Students travel from all over the country to be a part of the Hoop Skills Basketball Academy through the College. It is a unique and rare opportunity to be trained by a world-renowned, exceptionally talented athlete who has decades of experience and knowledge.

Stoke on Trent College student and athlete Alex Tew graduated from Hoop Skills and received a scholarship to attend Weber State University, located in Utah. Here he will continue to develop his Basketball skills and have access to even greater opportunities.
