Intermediate and advanced beauty learners from Stoke on Trent College dazzled at the UK Skills regional finals at the Birmingham NEC.
Four Level 3 Nail Services students from the College won themselves top spots in the competition, which challenges competitors to take part in over 50 different trade skills’ categories.
Abigail Snape and Vanessa Deakin both won first place in their categories of Advanced and Intermediate Nail Art, while Rhiannon McDonald and Leanne Whiting made sure Stoke on Trent College monopolised the top places in the Intermediate Nail Extensions’ category, coming second and third.
Now preparing for the UK Finals, Abigail and Vanessa will travel to Cambridge on June 25 – where the two girls will have their skills tested at national level. Both will have to produce extensive work in their competing categories if they hope to be successful.
If either is named a winner on the day, they could then progress on to the WorldSkills UK stage, with the ultimate aim to be named in the UK Team to compete at the international WorldSkills 2013 competition in Leipzig, Germany.
WorldSkills gives young people from across the globe to the chance to complete on an international stage – and be named the best in the world for their chosen skill.
The contest, known as the skills’ olympics, takes place every two years sees competitors from 50 nations taking part in over 45 different trade areas.
Stoke on Trent College Beauty Lecturer Rachel Lea said: “I was so proud of the girls when they got their results through.
“It is nice to see their hard work rewarded. They all worked really hard in the run up to the competition and they only had about a month to prepare, so to be as successful as they were is just brilliant and a real credit to them.”
