College radio to come a-live!

Budding radio DJ’s will be testing their new found skills, as well as their nerve, with a week-long broadcast of live shows!

Students on a Creative Media and Radio course at Stoke on Trent College will take to the airwaves on Monday, March 31st, to deliver a host of live shows on the college’s Heatwave Radio.

Throughout the week they will be out and about reporting live from the college’s Burslem and Cauldon Campus as part of several scheduled shows which include a daily breakfast programme, sports slots, specialist music programmes and a series of commissioned documentaries.

More than 15 students will take part in what will be their very first full broadcast week.

Lee Beddow, Radio lecturer at Stoke on Trent College, said:  “This will give all the students participating a flavour of what it’s like to run a full radio station and provide valuable vocational experience.

“The students will all be required to try presenting and producing, as well as working on outside broadcasts getting interviews and having their finger on the pulse of what is going on each day.”

Stoke on Trent College is the only place in the area running such a course and it is delivered in conjunction with Staffordshire and Cheshire’s leading station Signal Radio.

Mr Beddow added: “Working alongside Signal Radio is a huge bonus for the college and our students. They provide staff to run master-classes and help direct students towards possible future employment in the radio industry.

“It is part of college’s commitment to provide an education to our students that is relevant, provides real skills and helps them establish links with local employers.

“Overall it makes them stand out from the crowd and gives them the best possible platform to build their career.”

Students as well as members of the public will be able to tune in to Heatwave Radio and enjoy the live broadcast from 8am to 6.30pm daily.

Anyone wishing to tune in should go to www.heatwaveradio.net or via a Tune-In free app on your mobile.
