It was a hat trick for the area’s leading netball team this year as they began a new season with new netball sessions in a new partnership with Stoke on Trent College.
Harriers Netball Club of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, had one of its most successful seasons in 15/16 with the Senior 1st team qualifying into the West Midlands Regional League. They also won the Stoke on Trent League Division 1 title as well as becoming a Silver CAPS accredited Club.
To mark this and other successes, the Harriers started their 2016/17 season training at the new Institute of Sports Performance at Stoke on Trent College. Junior Club Manager and Coach, Carolyn Owen said: “The new partnership will help us to develop the sport and provide a link for College students who are looking to get into Club Netball”.
Trevor Humphreys, Institute of Sports Performance Manager at Stoke on Trent College said: “This is just part of the elite sports which we are constantly developing at the new Institute of Sports Performance at Stoke on Trent College – we have secured funding for the club to host extra sessions, enabling more youngsters to participate in sport at Club level”.
Satellite funding achieved through the partnership has allowed sessions for anyone over 14 years of age on a Thursday evening. The pay and play sessions are held for anyone who wants to get fit whilst playing netball socially with friends. Further Funding success from the England Netball Junior Starter Fund has enabled the launch of Harriers High Five (under 11’s) sessions on Tuesday evenings. Both of these sessions provide a direct link for youngsters to be chosen to play in the competitive teams in future seasons!
