Stoke on Trent College is working with some great local employers to provide gateways into careers with the NHS and a wide range of local pharmacies.

The Gateway programme is a route into Apprenticeships in sought-after businesses, aimed at young people aged 16-24 who are wanting to start work but may be lacking the skills or confidence when it comes to job interviews. The programme last usually for 10 weeks and includes a significant work placement with the employer, boosted by employability skills sessions at College plus English and maths for those without a GCSE grade C.

The College is working with a number of local pharmacies including the Lloyds Pharmacy group, to offer a Gateway into Pharmacy careers programme, which will start at the beginning of September. The Gateway Traineeships will lead to guaranteed interviews for Pharmacy Apprenticeships – a great way to get into a career in Pharmacy. In addition, the College will be following up its successful Gateway programme with the Mid-Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. The first cohort of students completed their Traineeship earlier in 2017, as a result of which a number were successful in gaining Apprenticeships with the Trust. The new programme will start on September 18th, and anyone interested can register interest via our webpage at http://nhs.stokecoll.ac.uk/
