Royal Opera Curtain Call for Students
Staff from London’s Royal Opera House will visit Stoke on Trent College to judge entries by art students who are designing costumes for their upcoming performance of Tosca.
Around 15 students studying for a diploma in art and design, are being given the chance to compete in the competition run by the National Skills Academy in partnership with the Royal Opera House.
Tosca is renowned for offering a great evening of opera, well known for delivering drama, passion and fabulous music, and the costume designs the students create will be expected to do likewise.
Audrey Ebrey, a lecturer in art and design who is leading the project, said:
“This is a great opportunity for some of our students to learn from some of the best professionals in the business. Staff from the Royal Opera House will come to our Performing Arts Centre again in January and eventually one student will then go forward to the national final to compete for the chance to win a day behind the scenes with the staff at the royal Opera House in Covent Garden as they prepare for a performance of Tosca in February.”
Stoke on Trent College is a Founder College of the National Skills Academy (Creative and Cultural)
