Young people offered a new route into training and work with Traineeship 2013
A new programme being offered at Stoke-on-Trent College is set to put 100 learners on track for employment and training.
Launched this week, Traineeship 2013 is an exciting and innovative employability programme which will start in January. It offers opportunities for students to progress into careers in a wider range of areas including health and social care, business administration and retail, hospitality and catering, hairdressing and beauty therapy, creative and media, construction crafts such as painting and decorating, maintenance, electrical engineering. New for 2013 is rail engineering in association with a local employer.
Yvonne Kelly, Executive Director Burslem campus, said:
“The idea behind this programme is to give young people the opportunity to develop their vocational and employability skills in order to get into their chosen apprenticeship and into work. We are aiming to recruit 100 learners aged 16 to 18, and the offer gives them access to high quality training, state of the art facilities and support. It is a work skills development programme which will include practical work experience placements and a bursary while on placement of £20 a week as well as access to a free weekly bus pass, a free breakfast and one to one career support. The programme includes an induction and training period up to 6 weeks to develop work ready skills, before students go out on a 6 week placement. After that there is a progression period where they can either go onto a full time or higher level course, take up a possible paid work placement with the employer or be taken on as an apprentice by the employer. We are working on this program in conjunction with recruitment company REED who will bring their own dedicated portfolio of employers. This is something we have not had access to before and will offer even more opportunities for our students.”
