Course Summary

Whether you are just thinking about teaching or you are looking in to applying for a teacher education course come along an attend one of our taster days. Through a 1-day course you will be able to find out about:
• The world of post-16 education and the Further Education (FE) Sector
• What it is like teaching in post-16 education including the roles and responsibilities
• What knowledge and skills do you need to be able to teach
• What qualifications you will need and how to achieve these
During the day you will spend the morning in the classroom where you will get chance to speak to experienced staff members from the Teacher Education department and spend the afternoon shadowing an experienced teacher within your chosen subject area.

You should have the experience or qualifications of the subject in mind that you wish to teach.

How Is It Assessed

There is no formal assessments for this course as it is tailor to helping you understand the role of a teacher in post-16 education

How Is It Taught

This 1-day course includes ½ a day in a classroom with a teacher educator and ½ in lessons with students (in a subject of your choice) where you will shadow the teacher. This could be in either a practical or theoretical setting.

What Could I do Next

You can progress onto a Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Education and Training and/or complete some free distance learning qualifications in the following areas linked to teaching: • Understanding Adverse Childhood Experiences • Understanding Climate Change and Environmental Awareness • Understanding Mental Health First Aid • Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent • Understanding Children’s and Young Peoples Mental Health • Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties • Understanding Behaviour that Challenges • Awareness of Mental Health Problems • Working with people with Mental Health Needs • Equality and Diversity • Principles of Working with Individuals with Learning Disabilities • Understanding Autism • Information, Advice or Guidance • Understanding Data Protection and Data Security • Digital Skills in Work • Cyber Security If you don’t currently have a Level 2 or equivalent qualification in Maths and English then you can complete these here at the college.
