Course Summary

The nail industry has increasingly become separate to beauty therapy as specialist nail salons become commonplace in the high street.
The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Nail Treatments is a specialist vocationally related qualification which will develop the basic knowledge, skills and competencies that you need to work as a manicurist or pedicurist and is the minimum standard required to work effectively. This qualification enables you to provide treatments for relaxation and improving the condition and appearance of the skin and nails on the hands and feet. The qualification is most suited to students who wish to embark on a career as a nail technician.
Units of study include:
Follow health and safety practice in the salon
Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
Provide manicure treatments
Provide pedicure treatments
Working with others in the hair and beauty sector

Entry Requirements

4 GCSE's at Grade 3, ideally including English and Maths.
Full Level 1 Diploma.

How Is It Taught

A variety of teaching methods will be used through your training, including practical skills demonstrations, classroom teaching, workshops, role play, discussion and work packs. Some independent study is required for which guidance is given. Practical skills and assessments are carried out on commercial clients within the new purpose built industry standard salon facilities.

Progression onto level 2 nail extensions or other courses at the College. Commercial Studio work.

What Else Do I Need To Know

This is a vocational course giving you the training and skills needed for employment, good punctuality and attendance is essential. To comply with industry and awarding body standards for commercial salons, you will be required to purchase a salon uniform and equipment which is available by mail order, an order form will be provided. The recommended salon uniform needs to be worn at all times during practical and commercial salon sessions. A professional appearance is necessary with a good standard of personal hygiene and you will need to be willing to receive and carry out the treatments for which you are training. Some courses have trips or visits which may have a cost attached. You will also have the opportunity to be entered in national skills competitions representing the College in which there have been many successful outcomes for the College. Optional units may change depending on employer requirements. When carrying out independent study and e-learning you will be able to use the College Learning Resource Centres, where you can access computers, text books DVD’s and other learning materials.
