Creating the next generation of youth workers
Belong. Believe. Become.

Find your why… Live on purpose… Make a difference to your generation…

Have you got lived experience that could make a difference to your peers or the life of children & teenagers? Would you like to find out what YOUTH WORK is all about to pursue as a career?

Then The Lab is for you!

What is The Lab?

The Preferred Futures course is an inspirational combination of classroom learning & practical youthwork placements facilitated by the SOT youth collective movement culminating in a graduation event with special guests.

What does the course include?

The Preferred Futures course will include Youth Work modules, Maths, English, & Employability Skills. Students on this course will be assessed on an ongoing base within the classroom as well as on practical placement – there are currently NO EXAMS to undertake as part of this qualification.

What is expected?

Students will be expected to commit to a 16-week course: 10 hours per week classroom based learning and between 1-3 hours a week within a practical youthwork placement across a selection of diverse youth focused multi-agencies across the city, to provide youthwork ‘tasters’ and give an insight into future youthwork pathways for employment.

Where do I study?

The Preferred Futures course is based over two sites; Stoke on Trent College, Cauldon Campus and Ruff & Ruby Youth Charity at The Potteries Centre, Hanley.
