Course Summary

With our Level 2 Diploma in Games Design and Esports, you will gain the skills and knowledge to understand the workings and technologies behind game playing and competitions in the growing eSports industry.

Game Design and Esports industry is a key, fast-growing player in global technology. Esports can be defined as organised competitive gaming, player versus player, either as individuals or in teams. There are established growing tournaments featuring professional teams playing games such as Cs-Go, DOTA and Fortnite. On this course, you will develop and be exposed to a range of transferrable skills that enable you to experience esports in different areas to help your progression to employment, directly or via further study. Games Design and Esports offers a unique opportunity to deliver a curriculum that teaches concepts in the context of multiple skills and subject areas at once, including creating impressive game scenes, 3D models and other media such as cinematics and audio.

Topics on the course will cover:

Review Esports Games, Teams and Competitions
Establishing and Marketing an Esports Organisation
Streaming setups and build networks for Esports
Create an Enterprise for Esports
Planning Esports Events
Design an Esports Game
Video production of Esports games and events
Psychology and Well-being in Esports

Throughout this course, you will develop a range of methods and skills used by professional industry practitioners. As well as these practical creative media methods, you will expand on your written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, research skills and self management skills.

The course will be based in our Digital and Creative building, a fully refurbished and equipped building. Facilities include 6 PC studio rooms, including a dedicated eSports setup on the ground floor. There are Virtual Reality (VR) workshops with an Igloo 360 VR studio and Occulus headsets. Our software includes Unreal Engine and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop and Premiere for graphics and video editing of Esports marketing materials.

4 GCSE's at Grade 3 including English and Maths.
Full Level 1 Diploma.

How Is It Assessed

You will be assessed via assignments, critical reflections and digital portfolio projects. Towards the end of the academic year, you can develop your Final Major Project based upon a preferred area taught earlier through the course. The course is graded from Pass, Merit and Distinction.

How Is It Taught

Taught at our brand new Digital and Creative Hub at Cauldon campus, opposite Staffordshire Univerity and Hanley Park, you will learn through either a series of workshops and tutorials to create content for your assignment, independent study and group work.

What Could I do Next

After successful completion of the UAL Level 2 Games and eSports Qualification, you can progress onto either UAL Level 3 Games Art and Animation, UAL Level 3 Games Programming or UAL Level 3 eSports.

What Else Do I Need To Know

This is a coursework based qualification with no exams! All work is stored on College digital servers and virtual learning environments, such as Canvas and Office 365, that can be accessesd anywhere at any time on any device.
